Last week, my 2-year-old daughter and I went to Morgan Territory midweek. I took her for the first time to this park; I had been here before to scope out this nice spot that was easily walkable for her. It packed an even greater punch than I realized! It was a great way to spend a nice spring day in Livermore.
Even then, it made me think of Kristoff's family in Frozen, the trolls that hide out as rocks. My daughter is just at the age when Frozen is becoming her favorite thing, so it was an easy sell to say that we were going to go see Kristoff's family.
To get to the glen with the rocks, take the Condor Trail from the parking lot and head towards the pond. When the trail forks, turn left onto the Coyote Trail to head towards the pond instead of going past the gate and then steeply up the hill with the large oak tree. You will quickly leave the bright sunlight near the pond and head into dense shade as you enter into a rocky glen. The distance one-way is a little more than 0.15 of a mile. Once we were there, she really enjoyed climbing up onto the small rocks and then jumping from them don't onto the ground. The rocks that she was climbing onto were not very large, so it was some great exercise for her and a chance both to work on her fine motor skills (balancing) and her gross motor skills (climbing, hiking, jumping). In the shady glen where the rocks were, the temperature was a little on the cool side. It was a breezy, cloudy day. Even with all of her exercising, she still felt a little cold when the wind picked up. So we went back out into the sunshine near the pond. We hung out by the shore and listened to the red-wing blackbirds singing. I saw two garter snakes, and then she and I saw about a million tadpoles! We had a lot of fun watching all the tadpoles and talking about the life cycle of frogs. And it was so beautiful to see the wildflowers blooming and the green grasses moving in rippling waves in the wind. It was a wonderful trip!
