Half Moon Bay State Beach is a series of four beaches (1. Roosevelt, 2. Dunes, 3. Venice, and 4. Francis) that have been collected into one state park that stretches about four miles along the shore in the town of Half Moon Bay. The Coastside Trail connects all the beaches and even extends beyond the borders of the park as far north as Pillar Point and as far south as Poplar and Redondo Beaches. The trail is easy and flat. It sometimes follows right along the cliffs and sometimes pulls further inland, but it is often even paved to be accessible for all people. There is a campground too, if you would like to trying camping right along the beach!

This is a lovely county park that I have written about a couple of times before (see here and here). I only had a little time this Sunday because the afternoon was dedicated to a Super Bowl Party. This short and sweet 4 mile hike was just what the doctor ordered!
The Brooks Trail Loop is in the McDonald-Pescadero Park Complex. Including the trek to and from the parking lot at Sam McDonald Park, it's an 8.8 mile hike that takes about 4 hours. I went on a rainy day, and I didn't see a single other hiker--but I was rewarded with this lovely waterfall for braving the rain!
This 12-mile hike, deep into the sprawling Pescadero Creek County Park, offered me lots of solitude and some close encounters with the California Newt.
As I have written before, Pescadero Creek County Park is a sprawling county park. I tried a new 6-mile hike today that knocked my socks off! I will definitely be hiking this one again! The majority of this hike was in a valley, along a creek, so it was not too steep. The "bridges" are not very good (I actually had to balance on a fallen redwood across one creek!), so keep that in mind. The part of the hike near Jones Gulch goes by several youth camps, so you are likely to encounter students. As a teacher, that was an attraction for me; however, it does diminish the solitude of the hike.
The San Andreas Segment of the Crystal Spring Regional Trail is right off of Skyline Road in San Bruno. Because of its proximity to the freeway, it was not so pleasant at first, but eventually it peeled away from the freeway, and then it was lovely.
I came back to the lovely Sam McDonald County Park, which I have written about before, in order to try a different hike. This 5-mile hike was really lovely!
Edgewood County Park is a ~400 acre park off of Interstate 280 north of Woodside. It is most famous for its wildflowers in the spring; however, it's worth checking out in the fall too.
The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and the Pillar Point Bluffs are right by each other, and offer a wonderful afternoon adventure!
