Today, my daughter and I went for a short hike through Anthony Chabot and Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. I think that we probably only hiked for one mile, in an in-and-out hike, but I saw a way to extend this nice hike for a longer loop. The Golden Spike Trail in Reinhardt Regional Park was especially pleasant, and it was fun for me to visit this part of the park for the first time.

The day after going to Coyote Hills with my family, I decided to head back to the marshes for a longer solo hike. I returned to Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge to explore a trail near the Visitor's Center that was new to me: the 5-mile loop along Newark Slough.
This lovely 5-mile loop links two areas of Tilden Park that I had previously only visited separately: the area around Lake Anza and the Nature Area. It was fun to take the Wildcat Gorge as a connector between these areas of Tilden.
I took a super enjoyable 7.9-mile loop through Windy Hill Preserve today. It was a glorious hike through a beautiful variety of forests and landscapes. It's made me wish I had explored deeper into this park before I moved away from the peninsula!
Today on a longer solo hike, I made the 9-mile loop around Lake Chabot. This was an extension of the short hike that I took last summer with my young daughter. I am so glad to have finally completed this longer loop, and I have more ideas for another hike when I can make a return visit.
After a bit of a false start today, my daughter and I managed to have a really nice time on San Francisco Bay at Cesar Chavez Park in Berkeley. Click read more to see the map, photos, and a write-up of our little adventure.
I only had a short amount of time for a solo hike today, and Sunol was already at maximum capacity when I arrived at 9:45 this morning, so I decided on a whim to try hiking at Vargas Plateau. This was my first time to hike this park in the dry season, and it was so different from what I have come to expect from only ever hiking here in late winter and early spring. I learned a lot, and I have a new loop planned for the next time I come back here.
Yesterday, my daughter and I both finished school for the year. Although I have work to do still, I submitted the final grades last night to the registrar for all the classes that I teach, and she had her last Zoom circle for her toddler class of the 2019-2020 year. So we decided to celebrate today by exploring a new park: Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, which offers amazing views of the San Pablo Bay and the mountains to the west in Marin County, such as Mount Tamalpais.
We are having a heat wave in the greater Bay Area right now. My daughter and I decided to beat the heat in the redwoods with some social-distancing hiking during the morning at one of our favorite parks, nearby Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, in the Oakland Hills.
