Today was my first time to visit Bishop Ranch Regional Park in San Ramon! I was not quite expecting for my hike to be so steep, so I did not go as far as I had planned, but my daughter and I still had a lot of fun. The park is part of a ranch, so we traversed grazing areas with lots of cows in them, and the cows were calving. There were very young calves everywhere! It was so much fun to see the little cows nursing, playing, and sleeping.

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness in San Ramon is a sprawling wilderness area. Today, I only dipped my toe into the park in this very easy introductory hike of only 1.5 miles and minimal elevation gain. I was by myself today, but this would be a great hike to do with my little one in the toddler backpack carrier.
On this trip to Pleasanton Ridge, I brought my family on a shortened version of the hike I did last December from the Foothill Staging Area. It was fascinating to see how different the colors are on this hike between September and December.
The last time I went to Uvas Canyon County Park was in the spring when the waterfalls were at their peak. In late summer, there is less water in the falls, but it is still really lovely and it is way less crowded. Although this hike is very short in terms of distance, there is plenty of elevation change, so it feels harder that it should--especially if you are carrying a toddler in a carrying pack! Nonetheless, this was a great hike for bringing our daughter, and we saw lots of other families too with little ones. Definitely a great place to bring children of all ages.
The last time I went to Morgan Territory, I was inspired by an impressive outcropping of rocks that formed a dramatic cliff face where falcons and raptors were circling and roosting. I decided to go back to Morgan Territory to do a trail that climbed up to the top rim so that I could get a birds-eye view from the cliffs. Even though it's late summer still, the colors were decidedly autumnal: golden browns, deep reds, and faded greens. It was very beautiful, but entirely different than what I saw in the spring.
