Lizzie Fountain Park is a tiny little park at the intersection of First Street and S. Livermore Ave. in Livermore. It is a little splash park where people bring their kids to play in the fountain near the lovely historic downtown. This was a big hit with my little toddler!

Ardenwood Historic Farm has become one of my family's absolute favorite activities for the weekend. It seems like most people associate this fantastic EBRPD park with its fall Harvest Festival, so it tends to be less crowded than Tilden's Little Farm. We had another lovely adventure this Saturday: we toured the Patterson House for the first time.
Lake Chabot Regional Park is part of the complex of parks that forms a greenbelt from the Berkeley hills to Castro Valley. It's on the southern end of this greenbelt, near San Leandro and Castro Valley, and it abuts Anthony Chabot Regional Park. The park has a marina (where you can either rent a boat or sign up for a one-hour excursion on the tour boat, the Chabot Queen) and a Cafe/Grill. I had heard good things about the grill, but they were closed today. The park is also a midway point for a paved trail along the shore of the lake that goes about half way around. This is perfect for anyone who is bringing their young kids for a walk in the stroller!
The last time I was at Alviso Adobe Community Park was when I was with my dad, who took some lovely photos of a striking sycamore tree in the large field across from the adobe house. This time, I actually went into the park itself to see the historic building, an adobe built in 1854 during California's Spanish-Mexican Rancho Era. This is one of the few remaining adobe houses in the Bay Area.
I've been taking care of my daughter during the weekdays while I am on a reduced work schedule for the summer (I am a teacher), so most of my hikes and outings lately have been geared more towards her. However, today (a Sunday), I got to have a solo hike for the first time in a long time. I decided to check out a trail that I have been thinking about at one of my all-time favorite open space parks: Del Valle Regional Park. It was a surprisingly cool day for summer in Livermore, and it was really lovely to hike in the morning.
This is not a hike, but another fantastic East Bay swimming hole. The Robert Livermore Aquatics Center is a great public place to get exercise outdoors, and it's very kid-friendly. I was blown away by how nice this pool is, and the 9:15-11:15 am Toddler Time was just perfect for my 2-year old toddler.
Today was my daughter's birthday, and she loves trains. So to celebrate, I took her to the California State Railroad Museum which is part of the Old Sacramento State Historic Park. I had been here before--my husband and I used to live in Sacramento--but this was her first visit, and it was a HUGE success! Choo choo!
Today, my daughter and I took our maiden voyage to Anthony Chabot Regional Park, an expansive park in the East Bay. To see more photos of our hike, click "read more."
Like Don Castro and Cull Canyon, Contra Loma is an EBRPD park that focuses on a swimming lagoon. Unlike the other two, the water of the swimming lagoon is clearly chlorinated and filtered, so it seems more like a pool and less like a secondary reservoir. This made for an interesting swimming experience! The pool has actual sand in its 0-depth area, but no sand in its deeper sections. My toddler loved this feature! We first hiked the perimeter of the reservoir and then we swam in the pool to cool off afterwards.
My daughter and I recently went on a hike with a friend who was carrying her own baby in a toddler carrier hiking back pack. We actually have one that we got when my daughter was still little enough that we mostly used her Ergo carrier; when we first tried it out, she was still too little I think, and she did not like it at all. On our recent trip, she was fascinated with the back pack, so I decided to bust it out to try it again. Success! She loved it, so I decided to try a short and sweet hike at one of our favorite parks, Sunol Regional Wilderness. It was so nice not to have to restrict a hike to a paved trail.
