Berry Creek Loop at Big Basin Redwood State Park

This 10-11 mile loop is an outstanding hike for a winter's day where you will see some spectacular waterfalls amidst beautiful, old-growth redwoods.

I hiked this trail in a clockwise rotation, taking the Skyline to the Sea Trail to Berry Creek Falls and then coming back to the park headquarters on the Sunset Trail. I liked taking the trail in this direction because I could see more light along the ridge when the sun was low in the sky. This is a strenuous hike, requiring about 5-6 hours and undergoing about an 1800 ft elevation change; however, it was really worth it!

I have hiked to Berry Falls from Waddell Beach in the autumn, and the difference in the amount of water is astounding. It's definitely fun to compare and contrast the pictures from Berry Falls in the fall and the winter! Click here to see the fall photos.
