Dusky-Footed Woodrat Trail at Pulgas Ridge Open Space

This four-mile loop was a great trail to take in the spring, with so many wild flowers blooming! Another reason to explore this dog-friendly park.

I took the route highlighted in pink in a counter-clockwise direction and I really liked it. There was some traffic noise from Interstate 280 in some parts, but it was still surprisingly quiet for a park that is so close to the cities up and down the peninsula.

The route I took goes through riparian, chaparral, and California Oak woodland ecosystems, and there were wildflowers blooming in abundance in each ecosystem! I was really impressed with the variety of flowers that I saw!

I am glad that I happened to be there on a gray day. The chaparral portions of the hike were pretty exposed to the sun and the wind. It's a good idea to bring a hat to this park if you plan to take this, the longest loop of all the trails in Pulgas Ridge.
