So, a lot has happened since I posted last--I had a daughter in mid-July! Our hike today was my first hike since she was born and her first hike ever. I wanted her first hike to be in the redwoods, so we made the short drive over to Huddart Park, a San Mateo County Park in Woodside. This 1.7-mile hike is a good hike for kids or for people who are carrying infants in a carrier. It is pretty flat, offers a nice variety of forest types, and has several benches. It's a pleasant, easy hike for extremely novice hikers! The trailhead to Chickadee Nature Trail is immediately after the pay-station at the park entrance (fee is currently $6). The map for Chickadee trail that the park service has on its website, which I have included with this blog post, is outdated; there is only one leg of the trail open right now. Luckily, it's the one that connects to the Redwood Nature Trail.
The Chickadee Trail is extremely flat and is even marked as handicap-accessible. The Redwood Nature Trail can make a loop, and it has signage to point out some of the most common trees in the area: Coast Oaks, Black Oaks, Tanoaks, Coyote Bush, California Coffeeberry, Redwoods, Douglass Firs, Madrones, etc. It also points out a few different types of ferns. In rainier months, you will probably find banana slugs on this trail, but I only saw fence lizards. This was a lovely hike for the not-so-lonely hiker and her new side-kick!

Love seeing my girls having such a good time together. Maybe when the little one is walking she can carry her own water. For the time being, I love that life is still better among the redwoods. I love you all so much.
