The Kincaid Lake Recreation Complex is in the Evangeline Unit in the Calcasieu Ranger District of Kisatchie National Forest. We came here recently to celebrate the 4th of July with family as part of our Gulf Coast vacation. It was such a lovely place to visit, and I can't believe that I had never been before, even though I grew up in Louisiana. Most of my photos from the day were of my family and our barbecue, so I only got a few photographs of the natural beauty of the area. I really, really enjoyed the drive to the recreation area. The US Forest Service does an amazing job of managing this forest, and it really gorgeous driving in to see the mixed forest of pine and what I think is live oak. The recreation area was just perfect for a summer barbecue because of the swim area--getting into the water really helped to cool everything done to make the midday meal enjoyable!
I want to come back here in the winter when it's not too hot for hiking and do a little more exploring. I've checked out two hikes in the area that look promising: 1) a moderately difficult 9-mile hike, the Kinkaid Loop Trail (links here and here), and 2) an easy 3.4-mile hike, the Valentine Loop Trail (links here and here). If I can carve out a day by myself, I can do the former, but if we have family with us then the latter would be better. I have a feeling that I will be back here the next time we go to Louisiana to visit our family!

My facebook page is actually Marcelle Cornay Art LLC-don't have a website. Dear Claire, I have found a painting that your mother created of white camellias. When I saw it, I knew the person who painted had a love for Louisiana. I am an artist in LA too. I was wondering if you would like me to mail you your mother's painting? Best, Marcelle Or-if you get to Lafayette, we can meet!
