Little Yosemite is a scenic gorge in the Sunol Regional Wilderness. It is accessible by either the Canyon View Trail or the Ohlone Camp Road. I made a loop out of the two, for a hike of about 3 miles with some gentle elevation gain. I did the loop with my daughter in her carrier. I think that if I had done an in-and-out hike on Ohlone Camp Road, then I could have done it in her stroller.
The gorge is very beautiful, but it does not look like Yosemite Valley. I think it does perhaps looks a bit like the area around Mirror Lake than it does like the view from the valley floor.
The hike along Canyon View Trail is a mix of oak woodland and grassland ecosystems with both serpentine and sandstone outcroppings. The views are impressive. The water in the gorge of Little Yosemite looks like it would be a lot of fun to wade in with kids who are slightly older. There were a lot of families there who were doing just that. October was a great time to go--it was warm but not too hot and the water looked safe for wading or swimming. There were signs everywhere warning people not to swim, but I am guess that this is mostly for liability reasons and/or for when the current is stronger in the spring. Our hike back on Ohlone Camp Road was a little exposed at first, but it became more shaded as we descended. It was level and wide, so I let my little daughter walk herself instead of keeping her strapped into the carrier. She LOVED it. She walked the majority of the way back; she's getting so big! EDIT: I found out the reason that there is no swimming or wading in Alameda Creek in the Little Yosemite Area. That part of the park is actually on lands for the San Francisco Water District. They have a no swimming policy for water on their lands.
