Phleger Estate, Golden Gate National Park

Phleger Estate is one of the many campuses that comprise Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It's located in San Mateo County near Huddart County Park. You can access the park from Skyline Drive, but the 7-mile trail that I took is easiest to access from Huddart. This trail is awesome to visit in April! The creeks were full (so I got to see lots of small waterfalls), and the irises were blooming. It was sunny but cool--basically, a perfect hike!  

Park at Zwierlein Picnic Area, near the restrooms and look for the signs for the Zwierlein Trail Head. From there, you will have to navigate a series of short exchanges. First get on the Crystal Springs Trail; follow that to the Dean Trail, and then take Richards Road. From there you can peel away onto Miramontes Trail. Follow the Miramontes Trail along the West Union Creek. You will eventually climb uphill, moving away from the creek. Not too long after, you will come to a three-way junction with Miramontes, Raymundo, and Mt. Redondo Trails. In the 7-mile "lollipop" version of the trail, you can take either of the trails and then loop back on the other to get back to the Miramontes Trail. You can adapt this trail by taking the Lonely Trail up the mountain towards Skyline Drive, and then looping back on the Crystal Springs Trail in Huddart Park.
