Pomponio State Beach

My husband is a lucky duck in June because he gets to celebrate first father's day and then his birthday back to back. For his birthday this year, we went to one of our favorites: Pomponio State Beach, between San Gregorio and Pescadero.

Pomponio is such a lovely beach because it's relatively small and quiet compared to a lot of the other beaches north of it, such as San Gregorio and the Half Moon Bay State Beaches; however, the stretch to the north of the beach is wide enough that you can walk all the way to San Gregorio if you want. It's about 2.5 miles each way, so 5 miles rounds trip. To the southern end of Pomponio Beach is a sheer cliff that juts out to the ocean. The wind and waves have carved cool caves into the cliffs. It is probably possible to skirt around the cliffs to walk south to Pescadero State Beach; however, it seems like this might be quite risky. It's better to explore the caves, but take the northern route if you want a long walk. It's really got the best of both worlds.

We had such a lovely picnic with friends! Although it was overcast, it was nice and warm. It was our first trip to the beach this year, and it was a smashing success.
