Tafoni Trail: El Corte de Madera

A really cool 3.5-mile hike that features a sandstone outcropping with delicate lace-like erosion patterns called tafoni.

I started at the Skeggs Point parking lot. From there, I crossed Skyline Drive to get to the trailhead, and then took the Tafoni Trail to the Sandstone formation. I backtracked a little because I had missed on the map that there was a Vista Point. Then, it was back to the Tafoni Trail until it teed into the El Corte de Madera Creek Trail, which I took back to the parking lot. The trail was mostly very flat until about half-way through the last leg. I saw deer when I was crossing El Corte de Madera Creek. I went on a weekday and it was very peaceful. On the weekend, it attracts lots of mountain bikers. If you are not into sharing the trails, then you might want to avoid this park or go on a weekday if possible.
